Thursday morning, Fletcher Allen announced its new name.
Fletcher Allen Health Care will be soon be "The University of Vermont Medical Center." It's part of a branding strategy to emphasize the hospital's partnership with the university and its research.
Its partner hospitals, Central Vermont Medical Center, CVPH in Plattsburgh, and Elizabethtown Community Hospital, will add "The University of Vermont Health Network" to their names.
Fletcher Allen says it will now begin filing with Vermont and New York to get approval for the new name. The rollout is expected to start this fall and take up to a year and a half.
