Vermont delegation opposed to Iraq military action

Posted: Updated:
BURLINGTON, Vt. -

Vermont's congressional delegation maintains its opposition to the war in Iraq.

Senators Patrick Leahy and Bernie Sanders both issued statements prior to the president's announcement, indicating they oppose boots on the ground.

When we asked if their opposition includes using special forces, advisors and drones, Sen. Leahy, D-Vermont, said he supports the president's decision to limit military support to advisers.

Sen. Sanders, I-Vermont, was not available; he was on a plane headed for Vermont.

In a Facebook post, Rep. Peter Welch said he agrees with the president's assessment of the civil war's cause, but wants any military action to be approved by Congress.
