Vt. Supreme Court: No double pay for state workers

Posted: Updated:
MONTPELIER, Vt. - A blow to the Vermont State Employees' Association from the Vermont Supreme Court-- the justices sided with the state in a dispute over double pay for some state workers who were on the job in the days after Tropical Storm Irene.

Hundreds of workers had to be moved to other offices after the flooding of the Waterbury office complex. A few dozen workers wanted double pay, citing language in their contract relating to emergency closure of offices.

Last July, the Labor Relations Board rejected their argument.

Friday the Vermont Supreme Court agreed, saying the "emergency" situation at the complex was technically over the day after the storm, so they weren't entitled to the extra wages.

The VSEA told us Friday they are very disappointed in the ruling.
