BURLINGTON, Vt. - The Burlington Board of School Commissioners has named Stephanie Phillips acting superintendent of the city school district.

Phillips replaces Jeanne Collins, who was forced to resign amid ongoing budget problems. Collins steps down effective June 30. She's now headed to the Rutland Northeast Supervisory Union.

Phillips has 16 years of experience in the Burlington district, most recently as curriculum director.

The board hopes to appoint an interim superintendent within the next several weeks. And a committee has been appointed to oversee the search for a permanent replacement.
