We're several months away from another busy college basketball season, but that doesn't mean Patrick Gym has to stay quiet before then. John Becker's basketball camp tipped off Monday. For the second straight year, former Catamount great, Taylor Coppenrath, addressed the campers before the afternoon work got underway. The camp has a mix of past and current Catamounts serving as counselors. Guys like Luke Apfeld, Matt Glass and Kurt Steidl were on hand. This year, the NCAA has allowed incoming freshman to be apart of basketball camps. That means guys like Trae Bell-Haynes can come up early and get a taste of what Catamount Country has to offer.
"It's providing insight on what the community feels towards the team," Bell-Haynes said. "All the kids come up to us. They're happy to work with the players. That's cool, because I've never experienced anything like that."
"All the young guys are finally excited to be on campus," UVM Head Men's Basketball Coach, John Becker said. "Everyone's getting to know each other so it's a fun time of year. To have camp kind of brings it all together, so it's been fun."
Session one of the Becker Basketball Camp runs through Friday. Session two goes from August 4th through August 8th. It's hopeful that another former Catamount legend, Marqus Blakely, will make an appearance in that second session.
