Woman trying to feed Santa's Land animals cited

Posted: Updated:
PUTNEY, Vt. (AP) - A member of a group that's been trying to feed the animals at the Santa's Land attraction in Putney, Vermont, has been accused of trespassing.

Vermont Public Radio reports Sarah Massucco received a citation Friday from the Windham County Sheriff's Office.

Massucco said she and others were throwing hay over the fence to the animals at the park, which has been closed since December. They've also been holding protests outside the park, saying the animals have been mistreated.

Earlier this year, the owner and caretaker pleaded not guilty to animal cruelty charges. Authorities said they found about a dozen dead animals, including deer, a potbellied pig and a peacock.

Windham County Sheriff Keith Clark says an officer is monitoring the park and the animals appear to be cared for.
