PUTNEY, Vt. (AP) - A walk-in clinic offering free medical care in Putney, Vermont, has closed after nearly 23 years.
The Brattleboro Reformer reports the number of visitors to the clinic at the Putney Medical Office has dropped through the years. Director Leon Cooper also said by remaining open, the clinic was, in a way, preventing people from signing onto the state's new health insurance.
Richard Fletcher started the clinic in 1991 when then-presidential candidate Bill Clinton was campaigning on the promise of improving the health care system.
