Vermont judge accused of misconduct

BURLINGTON, Vt. -

A Vermont Superior Court judge is facing allegations of judicial misconduct.

Judge Gregory Rainville is accused of altering a court record in a divorce case.

The state's Judicial Conduct Board is holding a public hearing on the allegations today in Burlington.

Legal experts say it's rare for a sitting judge to face this kind of review.

"I cannot remember in recent memory when the Judicial Conduct Board has had a case which involved allegations that the court changed something in he record, that they otherwise should not have changed," said legal analyst Cheryl Hanna.

Possible disciplinary action could involve a public reprimand or a suspension.
