Lund Center opens new facility in South Burlington

Posted: Updated:

A family support agency in Chittenden County opened a new building Thursday to accommodate the growing demand for its services.

The Lund Center's new facility is at the old Pizzagalli Construction headquarters in South Burlington. The facility will house Lund's education, adoption, family support and substance abuse treatment programs.

The nonprofit has grown and changed since its start back in 1890 as a maternity home.

"We're talking about the opiate epidemic, we're talking about the challenges our child protection services are facing in this state. Our best hope is organizations like Lund which give mothers and kids an opportunity for success by developing programs that address good parenting," Chittenden County State's Attorney T.J. Donovan said.

Lund says the capital campaign raised about $2.5 million for the expansion and has taken over 2.5 years to complete.
