WILMINGTON, N.Y. -

New York State Police say they are investigating a possible drowning in a river in Wilmington. Police say they recovered one body and one person remains missing.

Dozens of police and rescue crews were out at the Flume Fall on the Ausable River in Wilmington, New York, Thursday evening.

"Search for two subjects that went into the water and had not yet been seen. The search and the investigation into this incident is ongoing," said Capt. John Tibbetts of the New York State Police.

Two swimmers went missing and police say it's a possible drowning. One body was found, 17-year-old Taoufik Maknani of Plattsburgh. Police found him deceased down river from where the group was swimming.

"In my 32 years here there's never been anything other than a skinned knee, but it was going so fast they should not have been in there today," said Jerry Bottcher of the Hungry Trout Restaurant.

Rescue teams were out searching miles down the Ausable River from where the two swimmers were last seen. Crews will be out Thursday night and Friday seeing what they can find.

"With the amount of rain we've had, it's not the best time to be in swift moving water," said Capt. John Streiff of the New York State Forest Rangers.

Emergency responders will continue looking for the remaining missing person. Police would not say if this incident is considered suspicious.
