Athletes everywhere should take note. You are never to old to compete in anything. For proof, The Vermont Senior Games Track and Field State Championships at South Burlington high school Saturday. The games were open to anyone age 50 and over. It also serves as the qualifying games for the National Senior Championships. One of the many athletes on the course Saturday was record holder Flo Meiler. Of course, you don't have to be a record holder to take part.
"You don't have to be an elite athlete to do it. You just do what you can do, pick your distance and then start training," Vermont Senior Games Coordinator, Barbara Jordan says. "The best thing you can do for yourself no matter what your size, shape and age is exercise. This is a fun group. People are so nice that compete."
Track events include the 50, 100, 200, 400, 800 and 1500 meter runs. Field events are the shot put, discus, javelin, high jump, long jump and triple jump.
