Scaffolding is an essential tool when it comes to construction, but the staging the workers stand on often takes hours to set up and can be rickety.
"There wasn't a safe staging out there that you can set up in a reasonable amount of time," said Eric Kurtz from Smart Bracket Staging.
That's why after years of working in construction Kurtz got fed up and decided to design and make his own called Smart Bracket Staging.
"I've been in welding my whole life my dad was a pipeline welder so welding came easy to me, I keep his hood next to me," said Kurtz.
Smart Bracket Staging hangs from the building. It can be used on new construction by hanging it on a wall or on existing structures by hanging it from the roof. Kurtz says it's the only bracket out there that can do both and it's the only system that can span over 8 feet. One pair can span over 39 feet.
Reporter Gina Bullard: Why has no one else come up with this before?
Kurtz: That's what I said.
The lightweight steel bracket system goes up in a matter of minutes.
"With our system it takes less than 2 minutes to set up a 30 foot wall where as it usually takes an hour and a half with other staging," said Kurtz.
"Time is money you can save an average $400-$500 per build on labor," said Kurtz.
After testing it for over a year on different construction jobs it's finally hit the market and Kurtz has orders coming in from all over the United States Including several from Habitat for Humanity.
With orders streaming in, the business has outgrown his Essex garage. So now manufacturing is moving to NSA Industries in Saint Johnsbury.
Bullard: Are they safe?
Kurtz: Meets or exceeds all Occupational Safety and Health Administration standards. They're load rated for 1,050 pounds which is more than twice any other bracket out there.
Building safer and more efficient crews with Smart Bracket Staging that's Made in Vermont.
A base pair of Smart Bracket Staging costs $950.
