Swimmer struck by motorboat on Lake Iroquois

Posted: Updated:

There was a swimming accident on Lake Iroquois in Hinesburg this weekend.

A motorboat struck a swimmer Saturday afternoon. 62-year-old Jane Marinsky suffered multiple broken ribs and a cracked sternum. She is in the Intensive Care Unit at Fletcher Allen, but her husband says she is now stable.

Dan Sharp, Marinsky's husband, said she was wearing a white swimming cap and towing a brightly colored buoy to increase her visibility. Witnesses claim the accident happened within 200 feet of shore, where boats are supposed to operate at low speeds.

"She's not hard to see. She was easy to see. People saw her all the time, but they only see her if they're paying attention, but you can get in a boat and start screwing around especially if there are kids around and you're not paying attention," said Sharp

Police have yet to confirm if there is an investigation ongoing, but Sharp said he wants the boat operator to be prosecuted.
