Changes for Capital City Independence Day celebration

Posted: Updated:

Big changes are planned for this year's Independence Day celebration in Montpelier.

The Capital City celebrates on the third of July with a big parade, food, entertainment and fireworks.

This year, Montpelier Alive had changed where the fireworks will be set off and that means a bigger and better display for those around the city. The parade will return to its original route by traveling by the Statehouse.

"We are coming up big on the third so we have a new and improved fireworks display this year. Going back to the roof at the parking deck at National Life which increases our shop 600 and 500 feet. We are excited this year and we are taking the parade back in front of the Statehouse," said Ashley Witzenberger of Montpelier Alive.

"It means... how we all get together work together and enjoy each other's company, have a great time celebrating for the free country that we have," said Pinky Clark of Montpelier Alive.

The July 3 parade that boasts dozens of entries is scheduled to step off at 6 p.m. and works its way down Main Street before turning on to State Street. The fireworks in Montpelier will begin at dusk July 3.
