Vermont police increase holiday patrols

WILLISTON, Vt. -

A warning for drivers this holiday weekend-- with more drivers taking the roads, law enforcement agencies will be patrolling in full force. They will be cracking down on speeders and people not wearing their seat belts.

"Fourth of July is always one of our biggest holidays. It's a big traveling holiday and people are off from work. The fact that it's on a Friday this year, it's an extension to the weekend, so people don't have to work the next day, so there's that much more opportunity to engage in partying behavior. So, I don't know that we're a whole lot more concerned about it, but it will certainly make for a busy Friday night," Vt. State Police Capt. Paul White said.

A number of DUI checkpoints are planned throughout the weekend.
