Lightning sparked blaze where firefighters were injured

Posted: Updated:
GUILFORD, Vt. - New details about the lightning strike that injured seven firefighters in Guilford.

It happened Wednesday on East Mountain Road. Guilford firefighters were there battling a blaze at a home. They believe lightning sparked the fire that destroyed that house.

Everyone inside the home made it out safely, but the firefighters were not as lucky. While crews were trying to contain the blaze, they say lightning struck again, hitting a metal rod and sending shockwaves through.

"Seven firefighters were transported to be checked out. They were all fine, walking. Ah, but they felt a big shock," Guilford Fire Lt. Bevan Quinn said.

All of the firefighters were taken to the hospital to be treated for minor injuries that included numbness and chest pain.
