Oil train protest planned in Plattsburgh

Posted: Updated:
PLATTSBURGH, N.Y. -

Protests are planned for Saturday afternoon in Plattsburgh against oil trains.

The protestors say the rally is in response to incidents like the one in Lac-M├ęgantic, Quebec a year ago today. 47 people were killed last July when several cars of a parked train containing crude oil broke free. They rolled into the heart of Lac-Megantic and exploded, devastating several city blocks.

Protesters say they are trying to raise awareness about what they call a dangerous crude-by-rail transportation network near Lake Champlain.

They're planning a brief presentation about the issue, followed by a demonstration on the Green Street bridge and the Saranac River.
