Plattsburgh celebrates Independence Day

Posted: Updated:

Hundreds crowded the streets of downtown Plattsburgh for the city's Fourth of July celebration.

North Country residents spent Friday morning setting up food stands and sidewalk sales on City Hall Place. Then at 2 p.m., parade-goers watched dozens of floats, bands and local Plattsburgh groups march to City Hall.

The Fourth of July celebration is one of Plattsburgh's biggest events, along with the Battle of Plattsburgh and the Mayor's Cup.

"We've been walking around, checking out all the stuff, and then waiting for the parade. They're going to have a concert down there, and then we're going to watch the fireworks," said Michael Hartmann of Plattsburgh.

"It's great. It's my granddaughter's first Fourth of July," said Peggy Canning of Plattsburgh. "She's having a good time."

Fireworks are planned at 9 p.m. over Lake Champlain.
