MIDDLESEX, Vt. -

On Monday, Vermont took another step in welcoming electric cars.

Two new charging stations were installed by Green Mountain Power at the MiddleGround Complex in Middlesex. They will be open to the public seven days a week and will cost customers up to $5 an hour to use. The stations were paid for by GMP and cost nearly $26,000. The goal is to give EV users driving from Vermont to Quebec a place to re-charge their vehicles.

"This is a part of the Green Corridor Initiative and we're really excited because it's about really getting Vermonters to a lower cost, more efficient option for transportation with a smart use of electricity," said Mary Powell, Green Mountain Power CEO.

With the new installation, Vermont now has 33 charging stations.
