Upper Valley kids attend Splash Camp

WHITE RIVER JUNCTION, Vt. -

Ten lucky kids in the Upper Valley will be going to camp for free this summer.

The Upper Valley Aquatic Center secured a $3,000 grant for less fortunate kids to attend Splash Camp. The weeklong camp includes swimming lessons, use of the indoor water park, puppet shows and visits from firefighters. The grant money comes from Agnes Lindsay Trust, a nonprofit focused on health and wellness of young people. The aquatic center is working with local outreach organizations to help award the grant.

"We go on hikes once or twice a week up Hurricane Hill. We have a kickball field; they use it for whiffle ball, slip and slide, plus all the visitors. They get to hold the fire hose from the fire department. They just get a well-rounded week of activities," said Catherine Pearson of the Upper Valley Aquatic Center.

There are still five more weeks of the camp and there are openings for paying campers, but officials say the grant money for the 10 kids is going fast.
