ST. JOHNSBURY, Vt. (AP) - It's been five years since a fire on St. Johnsbury's Main Street left 20 people homeless and destroyed three brick buildings in the Vermont community.
The July 9, 2009, fire left a big cellar hole in its wake. The Caledonian Record reports a chain-link fence between a bank and the former Christian Science Church guards the hole, which is surrounded by dense brush.
Gerry Boardman of Danville, who owns two of the three vacant lots, said Lyndon-based Rural Edge plans to buy all three properties, pending a resolution over a right-of-way issue.
St. Johnsbury Town Manager John Hall said a water line was recently installed to the lots, capable of providing sprinkler service if the properties are developed.
