Vermont kids flip for champion gymnast

ESSEX, Vt. -

At the Regal Gym, folks are jumping in all directions.

"I like jumping around twisting, flipping and dismounts are probably my favorite," said Eva Phair, 12.

But Thursday, one gymnast was soaring higher than all the rest.

"He's really good at trampoline," Phair said.

World Cup Trampoline Champion Logan Dooley and other top gymnastics talent are joining dozens of area athletes for a weeklong clinic at the Essex facility.

"He's a great coach and teaches you a lot about technique on the trampoline and body position," Phair said.

"You get to learn all this new stuff and you get to meet them, like we see them on TV and now they're here at the gym," said Chloe Daniels, 12.

For Daniels, it's an amazing opportunity to hone her skills.

"I like how it is fun and you get to do all the event as that you like," she said.

"I hope they can at least learn a few quick pointers about how to flip faster and how to make their flips a little stronger," Dooley said.

But for Dooley, the opportunity to come across the country means more than just sharing his technique.

"Hopefully on an emotional level it just gives them a little more confidence as to what they're doing and hopefully they walk away with a happy, healthy, confident attitude," Dooley said.

And knowing that these budding athletes are looking up to him from the floor, beams and trampoline is pretty special, too.

"To know that all these kids are looking up to me is a really great feeling. It's a very cool feeling to walk into a place and people respect and are happy to work with you," Dooley said.

If their attitudes are any indication, Dooley's philosophy in the gym is paying off.

"Just to believe in yourself, be confident, push yourself to the limits, don't go so far that you hurt yourself but if you believe in yourself, if you believe, you can achieve anything," Phair said.

Powerful words from young athletes who could one day be the next great champions.

From Vermont, Dooley heads to the USA Gymnastics Championships in Louisville, Kentucky.
