Fairfax parents start their own private school

Posted: Updated:
FAIRFAX, Vt. - A group of Fairfax parents is starting their own private school after being unhappy with the public school.

The school will open this fall for kids from Kindergarten to sixth grade. The families have found part of a home that they will use as their classroom this year. The school will be located on River Road in Fairfax. The parents have hired Jessica Tomkowitz as the school's teacher. Tomkowicz's was previously a private school teacher in Florida. She says that the student's will lead the way in her classroom.

"Being able to take that time and explore the student's interest and really let them lead the way in what they say...the younger ones inspire the older ones because they see the magic of learning and the older ones say I want that back," said Tomkowitz.

The school's curriculum will also focus on foreign language, music, pottery and outdoor activities like skiing.
