Castleton man dead after bull encounter

CASTLETON, Vt. -

A Castleton man is dead after an encounter with an escaped bull.

Police say 76-year-old Harold Stanyon was out jogging near his home on East Hubbardton Road late Tuesday afternoon when a bull being housed on his property got loose.

Two neighbors reportedly asked him if he needed help, but he declined. Stanyon was later found collapsed in the grass. Police say he may have feared being chased by the bull.

"The bull got over top of him, but his injuries were minor from any type of incident with the bull. We believe the individual sustained a heart attack and died," said Interim Chief Steve Dechen, Castleton Police Department.

Police say an autopsy is being conducted and they do not think the bull caused Stanyon's death.
