PUTNEY, Vt. (AP) - The owner of a holiday-themed park in southern Vermont is looking to add a campsite to the property as she deals with an animal cruelty charge and bankruptcy proceedings.
The Putney Development Review Board for now has declined an eight-tent campsite at Santa's Land, telling owner Lillian Billewicz to return with more documentation at a later meeting.
Billewicz and property caretaker Brian Deistler have pleaded not guilty to animal-cruelty charges related to the alleged malnutrition and mistreatment of animals at the park. Billewicz also has requested Chapter 13 bankruptcy protection.
The Brattleboro Reformer reports Billewicz's legal and financial troubles have not stopped her from pursuing permits for improvements and additions at the park. In March, she received a board permit for operating the Igloo Restaurant at Santa's Land.
