One of the main reasons Vermont controls the moose population with an annual hunt is to try to reduce the number of car accidents involving moose.
The latest one happened early Thursday morning on Interstate 89 in the town of Georgia.
State police say the male driver was headed south when he struck the moose. The car ended up against the guardrails in the northbound lane. The driver was taken to the hospital with non-life threatening injuries.
The moose did not survive.
