Man charged with selling threatened turtles

Posted: Updated:

CONCORD, N.H. (AP) - A New Hampshire man has pleaded guilty to illegal possession and sale of threatened and endangered turtles.

The state Fish and Game Department says Richard Decoste of Londonderry had advertised the sale of spotted turtles, which are threatened in the state, and Blanding's turtles which are endangered.

Conservation officers searched Decoste's home and say they found ten spotted turtles and two Blanding's turtles. The investigation also included purchasing a turtle from him.

Decoste pleaded guilty last week to both charges and paid a little over $1,000 in fines.

Officials say the turtles have been returned to their native habitats.
