South Royalton emergency responders contain blaze

SOUTH ROYALTON, Vt. -

Emergency responders reached a fire just in time to save an apartment building Tuesday.

The South Royalton Volunteer Fire Department received the fire call at 11 a.m. Within the hour they contained the blaze.

Chief Paul Brock from the South Royalton Volunteer Fire Department says flames engulfed a garage, melting plastic siding on a neighboring apartment complex.

"I started seeing the siding roll and the proximity of it. I just knew that this building wasn't going to be saved and we were better off to put our concentrations on saving that," said Brock.

The fire did not cause any injuries. It's believed that heat from a recently used lawn mower sparked the blaze. Responders evacuated the apartment building, but residents have since been allowed to return.
