Castleton man died from neck and spine injuries after bull encounter

Posted: Updated:
CASTLETON, Vt. -

A Castleton man who died last Tuesday after reportedly having an encounter with a bull died from injuries to his neck and spine.

The death certificate for Harold Stanyon, 76, says he died of a cervical spine fracture and spinal cord contusion due to blunt force trauma to his head and neck.

Castleton police tell WCAX they believe those injuries were due to falling in front of his East Hubbardton Road home after a bull that was being housed on his property got loose.

Officials say he may have feared being charged by the bull but when we asked if they believed the bull charged Stanyon and caused the injuries, they said no.
