Cheryl Hanna's husband on her battle with depression

Posted: Updated:
BURLINGTON, Vt. - A beloved teacher, role model, wife and mother.

"Cheryl had this saying, be a star. And that's how she operated with the kids," her husband, Paul Henninge said.

Hanna was a star at home with her friends and her family, and in her work life at the Vermont Law School.

"She loved the law like nothing else," Henninge said. "She had an ethical core and believed in the balance of power and balance of issues."

Hanna took her own life Sunday at the age of 48. She leaves behind two children, Samira, 11, and Elias, 8, along with her husband, Paul Henninge.

The bright shining face we all saw on Hanna's many appearances on WCAX was masking something much deeper.

"Sometimes I refer to her as my shooting star because she was so bright and then-- poof! Nothing," Henninge said.

Henninge says that she was battling a deep depression for the past four months and was seeking treatment. But it wasn't enough.

"She had her mind set up that she wanted to take her life, and she did," Henninge said.
