4 injured in Charlotte boat fire

Posted: Updated:
CHARLOTTE, Vt. - Four people were hospitalized with minor burns after a boat fire in Charlotte Sunday.

It happened at the Point Bay Marina just before 3 p.m.  Fire officials say the 19-foot wooden antique power boat had just fueled up and was being started when gas fumes apparently ignited, causing an explosion and fire.

"They just finished fueling up when they went to start and they had a gas explosion on the boat. The fire was knocked down by marina gas crew. They did an excellent job knocking it down. Our crews just had to overhaul the boat," said Charlotte Fire Chief Dick St. George.

Officials say the owners were able to move the boat before the fire spread to other boats.  Eight people were on board -- including two children.
