HEMMINGFORD, QUEBEC -

Exciting news north of the border!

There's a new addition to the Parc Safari family.

The Quebec park is celebrating the birth of a baby giraffe. Sunday marked the first giraffe born at the safari in 23 years!

Mom, Bonnie, was in labor for three hours and delivered a very healthy baby girl.

Safari staff opened the barn for the delivery, but says the first time mom decided she wanted to put on a show and delivered in front of dozens of cheering spectators. Even accepting snacks from the public during the process. Staff waited for Bonnie to acknowledge the baby, then intervened to clean the newborn and check her vitals.

"It's a once in a lifetime thing. It's been 12 years since I've been working here at Parc Safari. I've been traveling around the world, seen different institutions, but I've never been part of a giraffe pregnancy, of a giraffe giving birth and being so close to that animal. I mean that's the kind of stuff, you can't ask for better," said Francis Lavigne, Parc Safari.

Now the newborn just needs a name. Parc Safari is still taking suggestions for the baby girl!
