Woolf and Stefanik spar over Social Security

Posted: Updated:
ALBANY, N.Y. -

Thursday marks the 79th anniversary of Social Security and a candidate for Congress used the occasion to criticize his opponent.

Democrat Aaron Woolf is running for New York's 21st Congressional seat. He suggests his Republican opponent, Elise Stefanik, supports privatization of Social Security and raising the retirement age.

"North Country seniors have worked for too long and too hard to have their trust fund gambled away on a volatile market," said Woolf.

We reached out to Elise Stefanik. Her campaign issued a statement saying, "Once again, Aaron Woolf is flat out lying to the voters... Elise has never said 'privatize' Social Security. She does not support raising the retirement age for any seniors at or near retirement."
