Volunteers display decorations for ovarian cancer awareness

Posted: Updated:
HINESBURG, Vt. - If you've been seeing teal ribbons around your town there's good reason.

Volunteers are displaying the decorations in Hinesburg, Shelburne, Charlotte and Bristol as part of the "Turn Your Town Teal" campaign.

September is ovarian cancer awareness month and the effort is designed to bring attention to the cause.

"We have had people walk up to us while we're putting up the ribbons asking us what it's about handing us donations, which that's not what this is about, it's not about a fundraiser, it's about information and awareness," said Melody Danaher, an Awareness Campaign volunteer.

Danaher is organizing the campaign in Chittenden County in honor of her friend Kathy who beat the disease. Volunteers are planning to host an Ovarian Cancer awareness forum in Hinesburg Sept. 18.
