Poll: Vermonters not impressed with Health Connect

Posted: Updated:
BURLINGTON, Vt. -

Vermonters have a generally low opinion of the troubled state health exchange.

In a new WCAX News poll, we asked respondents to rate the performance of Vermont Health Connect. Only 2 percent give it an excellent rating; 13 percent say it's good; 29-percent fair; and 33 percent poor. Another 24 percent say they're not sure.

It turns out a lot of Vermonters don't really know very much about the exchange, despite the well-chronicled failures of the program and the fact that tens of thousands of people are required to get their health insurance through Vermont Health Connect. Only 13 percent of the respondents to our poll consider themselves "very familiar" with the exchange. And those people especially don't like it. Six percent rate it as excellent and 20 percent as good; 27 percent say it is fair, while 46 percent say the performance of health connect has been poor.

The poll was conducted for WCAX by the Castleton Polling Institute.

  • Based on 653 interviews of registered voters conducted by phone from September 22 to October 2, 2014
  • Margin of error for entire sample, +/- 3.8%
  • Data are weighted by age, gender, and county to adjust for response bias
  • A likely voter model is applied to questions about voting in 2014 to adjust for over reporting the intention to vote
