Vermont voters have their say

Posted: Updated:
SOUTH BURLINGTON, Vt. -

Voters are heading to the polls this Election Day to decide who will govern Vermont for the next two years.

About 460,000 people are registered to vote in Vermont this year. And they'll have to decide on races ranging from their local representatives in Montpelier to the next governor and lieutenant governor, and Vermont's representative in the U.S. House.

Voters told us they came out because they wanted to make sure they had their say.

"It's the right thing to do. It's not difficult, and honestly, you can't complain unless you've been part of the process," said Brenda Withey of South Burlington.

"I hope always it's a good turnout because that shows that people are interested in exercising their democratic rights. But if you don't have a lot of hotly contested races it's not going to bring people out in huge numbers," said Maurice Mahoney of the South Burlington Board of Civil Authority.

Poll officials say the next rush hour at the polls will be from about 4-6 p.m. as people go home from work.
