Duprey with 5th win in Assembly race

Posted: Updated:

Republican incumbent Janet Duprey had a strong lead all night Tuesday in the race for New York's 115th Assembly seat.

The race has been hotly contested in the North Country. Duprey defeated Karen Bisso in the Republican primary, but Bisso stayed in the race as a conservative.

Bisso recently accused Duprey of unethical conduct, saying Duprey intimidated Bisso's close friends. Duprey denied the accusation, saying it was a last-ditch effort to distract voters. Late Tuesday, Duprey was beating Bisso in Clinton County and in other big areas like Saranac Lake, Tupper Lake and Malone.

Tuesday night, Duprey said she was confident she would win for a fifth time.

"I feel very comfortable and very pleased. Nice turnout, good turnout for an off-year election, and I look forward to serving the people for another two years in the Assembly," Duprey said.

And with 100 percent reporting, Duprey won with 65 percent of the vote to Bisso's 35 percent.
