COLCHESTER, Vt. - Two goals 21 seconds apart in the final 2:57 of regulation gave the Saint Michael's College men's lacrosse team the lead for good during an 8-7 victory over Assumption College on Saturday at Duffy Field during Senior Day. In a match-up of regionally-ranked squads, the Purple Knights finished the year 7-7 overall and 5-6 in the Northeast-10 Conference, while the Greyhounds are 9-7 and 6-5.

Saint Michael's is fifth in the New England Intercollegiate Lacrosse Association (NEILA) rankings and ended the season 5-0 in games decided by two goals or fewer. Assumption is third in the NEILA poll and had won its prior four contests.

Senior Matt Dromeshauser (Norwell, Mass./Norwell) turned in a hat trick for the Purple and Gold in his final collegiate game, while junior Mark Yetter (Skillman, N.J./Montgomery/Delaware) had two goals and an assist, with his 42 points the most by a rookie since Kevin Duffy '00 had the same number in 2000. First-year Brian Loughlin (Kingston, N.Y./Kingston) handed out four assists to finish with 28 this season, the most ever by a Purple Knight rookie and just one short of the program's 20-year-old standard. Classmate Matt Hanley (Plainview, N.Y./Bethpage) made eight saves to finish the year 2-1 after starting his fourth straight game.

Juniors Daegan Goodman (Montpelier, Vt./Montpelier) and Jamie McGill (Needham, Mass./Needham) and sophomore Tom Fitzgerald (Cranford, N.J./Cranford) all scored once for the hosts, while first-year Spencer Ralston (Hebron, Conn./Cushing Academy) was 8-for-17 on face-offs, ending the year with 101 wins, a program record for rookies and a figure that matched the second-best total in school annals. Ralston, who missed two games due to injury, was within seven of the 27-year-old standard. Senior Luke Solms (Bedford, N.H./Northfield Mount Hermon) posted three ground balls and caused four turnovers, ending his career as the program's all-time leader with 77 caused turnovers. First-year Patch Ryan (Holden, Mass./Saint John's) added five ground balls and two caused turnovers while dishing off his first college assist on the game-winning goal.

Senior Ty Martina (Marshfield, Mass./Marshfield) and first-year Conor Darby (Haverhill, Mass./Proctor Academy) both scored twice for Assumption, while junior Nick Guarino (Avon, Conn./Avon) was 10-for-19 at the X. Senior Will Contento (Marshfield, Mass./Marshfield) made 17 stops.

Dromeshauser kicked off his Senior Day hat trick by converting a feed from Yetter 1:08 into the contest for the game's opening goal, but Assumption scored twice in an ensuing 22-second span to forge ahead 2-1 just 1:19 later. Loughlin set up the next two Saint Michael's markers to put the hosts back in front, dishing to Yetter at 8:44 of the opening quarter and to Dromeshauser with 1:55 left. The Purple Knights led 3-2 at the end of one.

Darby sandwiched two goals around a teammate's marker to spark a second quarter during which the Greyhounds went on a 3-0 run, and the visitors were up 5-3 at halftime. Fitzgerald tallied with 8:14 left in the third, snapping his team's 30:28 scoreless drought, and Dromeshauser netted the equalizer 5:02 later on a Loughlin pass.

With the game still tied at five, all of the scoring in the fourth quarter came in a frenzied 3:29 span in the closing 6:05. McGill's shot from a difficult angle off of a Loughlin pass put Saint Michael's ahead with 6:05 left, but Martina ended a 21:42 scoreless stretch for Assumption by scoring twice in 52 seconds, pushing the Greyhounds into a 7-6 lead with 3:55 to go.

Ralston keyed the comeback by winning the game's final three face-offs, with Goodman finding the back of the net at 2:57 before Ryan scooped the ground ball on the ensuing draw and dished to Yetter for the eventual winner with 2:36 to go. After Yetter and McGill combined on a takeaway with 1:30 remaining, Fitzgerald put forth a critical individual effort on the sideline, killing more than 20 seconds by breaking through multiple Greyhounds, including at one point a triple team that included Contento. A Purple Knight turnover with nine seconds left gave Assumption one final clearing attempt, but a long pass down field did not connect with anyone as time expired.

Prior to their final college contest, Dromeshauser, Solms, Matt Casella (Yonkers, N.Y./Fordham Prep) and Sean Curtin (Ledyard, Conn./Ledyard) were all honored during a Senior Day ceremony.

The Saint Michael's College baseball team resumed its season-ending six-game homestand with two losses, 7-5 and 9-1, to regionally-ranked Stonehill College in Northeast-10 Conference Northeast Division action at Doc Jacobs Field on Saturday. The Purple Knights slip to 10-26 overall and 4-18 in the league.

Senior George Buteau (Burlington, Vt./Trinity-Pawling School) homered and had four RBIs in game one for Saint Michael's. Junior Matt Feeney (Portsmouth, N.H./Portsmouth) doubled and walked and sophomore Drew Salk (Billerica, Mass./Billerica Memorial) doubled and scored twice while being hit by a pitch twice. Senior Nicky Elderton (Shelburne, Vt./Rice Memorial) provided one hit and one RBI, and first-year Peter Bocchino (Saugus, Mass./The Governor's Academy) was also hit by two pitches. Sophomore Dylan Lavery (Billerica, Mass./Billerica Memorial) allowed seven runs on nine hits with three strikeouts in 5.1 innings for the loss, while senior Will Corkum (Ipswich, Mass./Ipswich) threw a scoreless 3.2 relief innings, yielding just three hits while fanning two batters.

In game two, Feeney went 2-for-4, while first-year Aiden Burton (Milford, Conn./Notre Dame) was 2-for-3. Elderton drew two walks and Buteau provided one hit and one run scored. Junior John Mielke (Boxboro, Mass./Acton-Boxboro Regional) was tagged with the loss after allowing six runs - two earned - on eight hits in 2.2 innings. First-years Colin Brennan (Braintree, Mass./Boston College HS) and Steve Knable (Manalapan, N.J./Saint John Vianney) combined to allow three runs - no earned - on five hits with four strikeouts over the remaining 6.1 frames.
