Clean NAC title sweep for Castleton

CASTLETON, Vt. -

After falling short a year ago, the Spartans men's lacrosse left no doubt in 2015 as they scored the first six goals of the game on the way to a 10-6 victory over New England College in the North Atlantic Conference Championship on Saturday evening.

Castleton earned its first NAC Title since 2013 by controlling the pace of play and outshooting the Pilgrims 34-13 in the opening 30 minutes.  It was a total team effort as eight different players scored goals, and no player had more than three points. Zach Davidson led the team with two goals and one assist while Nikolas Rancourt scored twice and picked up three ground balls. Sam Siegel added one goal and one assist.  Davidson was honored as the NAC Tournament MVP while Polas and Latulippe were also named to the team for their efforts in net. Galluzzo was also selected to the All-Tournament team along with Matt Richard and Skyler Saunders.  Castleton improves to 13-5 overall. The Spartans now await their NCAA Tournament fate and will find out during the selection show on Sunday evening at 9 pm.

The Spartan women;s lacrosse team scored just 1:08 into the contest and never looked back as they won their fourth consecutive North Atlantic Conference Championship with a 16-3 victory over Thomas on a beautiful afternoon at Spartan Stadium.  Castleton dominated from start to finish to earn their 15th consecutive victory and advance to the NCAA Tournament for the fourth straight year. The Spartans outshot Thomas 40-16 in the contest and picked up 17 of the game's 21 draw controls.  Five different players recorded at least three points for Castleton, led by Mariah Lesure with two goals, four assists and four draw controls. NAC Tournament MVP Brandi Whittemore added four goals and four ground balls while Kate Auer scored three times and grabbed ten draw controls.  In addition to Whittemore, Lesure, Tiffany Danyow and Rachel Bombardier were named to the NAC All-Tournament Team for Castleton. McCarthy, Day and Brittany Premo were named to the All-Tournament Team for Thomas.

Castleton now advances to the NCAA Tournament and will find out their opposition during the selection show on Sunday night at 9:30 pm.
