FERRISBURGH, Vt. - A Vermont doctor was killed while bicycling in Ferrisburgh, the third cyclist fatality in the past two months.

Police say Kenneth Najarian, 60, of Charlotte, was riding his bike southbound on Greenbush Road Wednesday evening. Somehow, he and a car also headed south collided.

Police say the driver of the car was Holly Gonyeau, 36, of Ferrisburgh. And police say she was driving drunk. A preliminary breath test shows her blood alcohol content was 0.123. Gonyeau was cited into court for drunk driving, but not the more severe charge of DUI with death resulting. Vermont state police say they have not yet completed their investigation into the cause of the crash.

Kenneth Najarian was a radiologist at the University of Vermont Medical Center. A joint statement from Dr. Kristen DeStigter and Dr. Anant Bhave released from the hospital read in part,

"Ken had a true love for life and was passionate about anything he undertook, whether it was cycling, drumming, kiteboarding or other athletic and artistic pursuits. His favorite hobby was spending time with his family, by whom he will be greatly missed.

He was the kind of person you would want to be your doctor. One resident-in-training wrote of Ken in a recent evaluation, 'He treats patients like family and residents like colleagues.' Because of his work in interventional radiology, his loss will be felt far beyond our department. Ken had interactions with almost everyone in every field of medicine here during the last 30 years.

He was a role model for the best practice of medicine.

In those other recent bicyclist fatalities, Kelly Boe, 55, of Middlebury, was also hit by an alleged drunk driver in Weybridge April 14. And Richard Tom, 47, of Hinesburg, was hit by speeding car in Hinesburg April 26.
