DES MOINES, Iowa -

Presidential candidate Bernie Sanders is currently focusing his efforts in Iowa, where he held a New Year's Eve rally Thursday night. Sanders is still hopeful he can pull off an upset of Hillary Clinton in the Iowa caucuses in a month.

"Right here in Iowa and a week later going to New Hampshire and then to Nevada and then to South Carolina we have an opportunity together to say that the United States government has got to represent all of us and not just a handful of billionaires," said Sanders.

"It's pretty intense, it's pretty exciting that he's here in Iowa, he showed up in Des Moines for New Year's, I mean people are jealous," said Aaron Wingert from Des Moines, Iowa.

"It shows that our country is renewing this year and it shows that we can all come together and support him tonight," said Emily Burger from Grimes, Iowa.

"It's going to be a new beginning in '16 and we know it if everybody pulls together votes, you're in," said Rick Soria from Minburn, Iowa.

"It's really like a nice kick-off to the new year and really like a way to prove that 2016 is going to be the best year yet," Taylor Aldrich from Clive, Iowa.

Next up for Sanders, it's back to New Hampshire for two days of events Sunday and Monday.
