South Burlington to hold F-35 lawsuit hearing

Posted: Updated:

South Burlington is letting residents weigh in on whether the city should join a lawsuit against the F-35.

At a meeting Monday night, the City Council unanimously decided to hold a public hearing later this month.

The lawsuit centers on the fighter jets' environmental impact and claims the Air Force underestimated the noise level of the jets and their impact on health and property values.

Plaintiffs in the case include the city of Winooski, the "Stop the  F-35" Coalition and six Chittenden County residents.

The Air Force expects to bring the plane to Vermont in the fall of 2019.

City councilor Tom Chittenden tells WCAX News the hearing will be on June 22 at 6:30 p.m., but they have not yet decided where it will be held.
