Suspected security breach on Vt. Fish and Wildlife website

Posted: Updated:
WATERBURY, Vt. -

If you bought a Vermont hunting or fishing license online in the past year, your personal information may have been compromised.

The Vermont Fish and Wildlife Department posted a notice Tuesday of a suspected security breach between April 2015 and January 2016. The state says it is possible that names, addresses and noncredit-card information was accessed. Seven site users who typed their credit card numbers in the wrong data fields have been notified.

"Even in those cases, neither the expiration dates or the security code on the back of the card was stored, so we believe it's very unlikely that credit card numbers were compromised; however, it's possible for sure in those limited cases, and it's also possible some other customer information might have been," said Vt. Fish and Wildlife Commissioner Louis Porter.

Porter says they have no conclusive evidence of any misuse of customer information related to the breach.
