Mini Maker Faire in Rutland

Posted: Updated:

Downtown Rutland's main streets are closed to cars this weekend and filled with pedestrians checking out the annual Mini Maker Faire and sidewalk sale.

The faire brings local inventors and entrepreneurs downtown each year to present recent projects they've been working on. This year, Vermont Drone hosted flying competitions and the Rutland Area Robotics team showcased robot battles, among other displays of art and invention.

The faire's organizers say the annual event is a rare opportunity for local inventors, as well as residents, to see the incredible things being created in Rutland County.

"The maker fair is a family-fun event where people come together and show off what they've made, both technology and art are integrated together and there are some pretty amazing projects," said Douglas Webster, Maker Faire producer.

Other interactive workshops at Saturday's fair include 3D printing, astronomy and optics, and a soldering demonstration. The event was sponsored by many local organizations including Green Mountain Power and the Rutland Economic Development Corporation.
