WhistlePig works to be 100% made in Vt.

Posted: Updated:

WhistlePig Whiskey in Shoreham harvested its own rye to make whiskey. This is a new practice for the company as it's working to make their whiskey entirely grain-to-glass; housing every aspect of the whiskey making process in one place.

WhistlePig officials say each bottle of whiskey contains a couple of pounds of rye -- they get about 300 bottles of whiskey per acre of harvested rye.

"In the first phase we actually brought whiskey in from Canada, put it into a bottle. Then we began aging it here. Now we're moving to what I'm calling 'Triple Terroir': our grain, our water, our wood. Where we're doing it completely soup to nuts on our farm with our fully functioning distillery," said WhistlePig founder, Raj Bhakta.

Company officials are calling it farm stock whiskey.  They say it will be available in stores in about 10 years.
