Brattleboro wants Kevin Bacon at Baconfest

Posted: Updated:

Some unusual sightings in Brattleboro as the town gears up for its annual Baconfest.

The September festival is billed as a celebration of all things bacon. It includes a 5K run, aptly named the hog jog. There's also plenty of bacon-themed food along with beer and live music.

To cap off the day, the festival will feature a movie starring actor Kevin Bacon at the Latchis Theatre. And it seems organizers are really hoping the actor will show up in person. They have been posing a life-size cutout of Kevin Bacon around town and posting the pictures on social media inviting the actor to come to the festival.

Organizers even got Brattleboro-born Gov. Peter Shumlin to help with the pitch.

"Kevin, Vermont has the coolest little town in America called Brattleboro. I was born here. I still love it. They're going to have a Bacon Festival. It'll be the best bacon in the best little town in America and we need you," Shumlin said.

Sen. Patrick Leahy has joined the campaign, too. The Brattleboro Chamber of Commerce tweeted a photo of Leahy with wife Marcelle and the Bacon cutout, making a plea for the actor to come to the event.

We'll find out if all their efforts paid off next month. Baconfest is September 17.
