Pipeline protesters charged with trespassing

NEW HAVEN, Vt. -

Protesters face charges after trying to stop construction of a natural gas pipeline in Addison County.

Vermont State Police say a dozen people face trespassing charges and one suspect faces a charge of resisting arrest. Police say the suspects tried to stop construction of the Vermont Gas pipeline in New Haven Tuesday. The protesters argue the pipeline is bad for the environment, but supporters of the project say it is good the region's economy.

Police say the group delayed construction for about three and a half hours.

The 41-mile project has been mired in a series of protests and cost overruns.
