Dartmouth temporarily moves art museum

HANOVER, N.H. -

There is a new arts space in downtown Hanover, New Hampshire, as a multimillion-dollar construction project at Dartmouth College gets underway.

Hood Downtown on Main Street is temporarily replacing the Hood Museum at Dartmouth. The museum will be closed for the next two and a half years for a complete overhaul. Officials say Hood Downtown will continue the college's commitment to the arts in the community.

"The Hood Downtown space is designed to serve the needs of multiple communities. We will continue to have classes from the college, we will continue our K-12 programming in the local schools and we will also be a center for art-related community events in the greater Upper Valley," said John Stomberg, the Hood Museum director.

Renovations to the actual Hood Museum are estimated at $50 million. When complete, the museum will include six new galleries and additional classroom space.
