In the Kitchen on the Weekend: Slow Cooker Apple Cobbler

Posted: Updated:

Nick and Julie are back in the kitchen to make an easy slow cooker apple cobbler!

8 large apples (or 10-12 smaller apples)
     1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon
     1 teaspoon vanilla extract
     pinch salt
     2 tablespoons sugar
2 tablespoons flour plus 1 cup flour
     1 cup brown sugar
     1 cup oats
1 1/2 sticks butter, room temperature

Peel and slice apples into wedges. If you want to prevent browning of the apples, submerse them in a bowl of water mixed with a teaspoon of vinegar or lemon juice (this stops the oxidation process). Once ready to use the apples, drain them and toss with cinnamon, vanilla extract, a pinch of of salt, sugar and 2 tablespoons of flour. Place apples in the bottom of a greased crock pot. Now make the crumb topping. In a large mixing bowl add 1 cup flour, brown sugar, oats, butter, and another healthy pinch of salt. Use your hands or a fork to work the mixture into a crumble. Sprinkle mixture on top of the apples. Put the lid on the crockpot and cook on low for 6-7 hours, or until the apples are tender. It goes great vanilla ice cream, whipped cream, or sharp cheddar cheese.
