BURLINGTON, Vt. - Vermont closed out non-league play with a 2-1 double overtime loss to Hartwick College on Tuesday evening at Virtue Field. Kyle Honor won the game for the Hawks with 3:13 left in the second overtime period.
UVM heads into America East play with a record of 8-2-1, while Hartwick improves to 5-1-2.
The teams battled to a scoreless draw in the first half in a tight defensive tilt.
The 16th-ranked Catamounts jumped on the scoreboard first in the 80th minute. Shane Haley battled through the Hawks' defense on the goal line and sent a low cross to Bernard Yeboah, who one-timed a line drive into the left side of the net past Lenny Wilson (6 saves). The goal was Yeboah's team-high ninth of the season, moving him into a tie for second nationally.
Hartwick answered back less than five minutes later. Kane O'Neill tallied the equalizer into the top right corner of the goal on a first-time volley from 25 yards out.
As the game moved into two extra sessions, Honor scored the walk-off goal in the 106th minute. Cameron Paton blooped a cross into the far side of the box for Honor, who ripped a shot past a diving Aron Runarsson (5 saves) inside the left post.
UVM had a chance to end the game four minutes into the second overtime period. Haley dribbled to his right on the edge of the box and directed a low right-footed shot that deflected off the outside of the right post.
The Catamounts finished the night with a 16-15 edge in shots.
